In Marvel Rivals, status effects can be a big annoyance. While most cause little to no damage, they leave your character unpredictable and exposed to follow-up assaults. It’s critical to understand your adversary’s capabilities and how to prevent or negate them. Using your status effects initially to halt the enemy’s progress can be quite helpful in mirror matchups. But it can also be crucial to save a negative effect for a strong push or defense and avoid using it needlessly.
In Marvel Rivals, evaluating the structure of the opponent and your friends’ teams is a crucial component. If no one can use it effectively, a negative status consequence isn’t as problematic. These effects are typically utilized by Vanguards to approach or Strategists to flee. You might be fine once they finish if there aren’t enough Duelists to deal more harm. Any lost points can also be recovered with the assistance of a helpful Strategist.
All Enemy Abilities With Negative Status Effects
Marvel Rivals offers a wide variety of status effects. While some are only stated in the Hero tab’s Abilities part, others are named right on screen. The names of effects and the corresponding character abilities can differ, which can cause some confusion due to shifting terminology. The terms “Stunned,” “Webbed,” and “Snared” may be used by your allies, but they all indicate the same thing.
Ability | Character Or Team-Up | Status Effect | Debilitation |
---|---|---|---|
Spore Slumber | Mantis | Sedated | Put the target asleep for four seconds. |
Cyber-Web Snare | Peni Parker | Stunned | Immobilizes target for one second. Stops ultimate abilities in progress. |
Dark Seal (if used twice) | Scarlet Witch | ||
Webbed Acorn | Squirrel Girl teamed with Spider-Man | ||
Radioactive Lockdown | Hulk | Exiled | Stuns the enemy for three seconds. Breaks early if Hulk attacks them again. |
Absolute Zero | Luna Snow | Frozen | Freezes target for four seconds. Breaks if they take any damage. |
Feral Leap | Wolverine | Smash | Grab an enemy and push them a short distance. Also increases Wolverine’s normal attack speed. |
Ancient Ankh | Moon Knight | Pull-In | Pulls all nearby targets into the center point. It is also a deployed ability that can be destroyed. |
Terror Cape | Cloak | Blind | Obscures vision to 10 meters. Also take additional damage |
Squirrel Blockade | Squirrel Girl | Imprisoned | Stop a target from moving for several seconds. |
Strangling Prison | Groot | ||
Horn of Proteus | Namor | Knock Down | Enemies in range fall down and cannot act. |
Eye Of Agamotto | Dr. Strange | Soul Separation | Foes are detached from their souls. Damage to these souls transfers to the host. |
Since several moves in Marvel Rivals can only be used as ultimate attacks, they are not used very often. But they are typically the most adverse effects, and if you are already in the area of effect, you cannot avoid them. Utilizing your status effect, which is mostly Stunned and Frozen, can even stop ultimate attacks, though.
Ability | Character Or Team-Up | Status Effect | Debilitation |
---|---|---|---|
Goddess Boost: Tornado | Storm | Slow | Lower movement speed by 15% |
Electro Plasma Explosion | Black Widow | ||
Hypersonic Arrow | Hawkeye | Slow that Knocks Down Flyers | Lower movement speed by 15%. Knocks Down only enemies that are currently flying. |
Tainted Voltage | Winter Soldier | ||
Gamma Grenade | Bruce Banner | Launched | The target flies into the air and can be hit with follow-up attacks. |
Amazing Combo | Spider-Man | ||
Frenzied Arrival | Venom | ||
Trooper’s Fist | Winter Soldier | ||
Super-Soldier Slam | Captain America | ||
Living Legend during Freedom Charge | |||
Storm Surge | Thor | Knock Back | Push the target back a few meters. |
Frozen Chi | Luna Snow teamed with Iron Fist | ||
Spinning Kick | Black Panther | Vibranium Marked | When Black Panther hits a marked target with Spirit Rend he gains 40 health and instantly resets its cooldown. |
Spear Toss | |||
Bast’s Descent |
The most cunning negative status effect is Black Panther’s Vibranium Mark, which first appears to have no impact on you but, if the opponent Black Panther pursues, they can constantly harm the entire team and recover a significant amount of health.
How To Avoid Or Escape Negative Status Effects
Although status effects are likely to be used by the enemy, there are ways to avoid or quickly eliminate their effects. A Vanguard’s shield can halt almost all effects. This includes maneuvers like Magneto’s Metallic Curtain, the Hulk’s Indestructible Guard, and Dr. Strange’s Shield of the Seraphim.
In Marvel Rivals, negative status effects that have a broad impact, such as Namor’s Horn of Proteus, typically have a sizable telegraphed marking. In contrast to allies who employ the same action, many foes have distinct callouts. Use your dash and dodge skills rather than simply backing away.
Psylocke’s Psi-Blade Dash, Iron Fist’s K’un Lun Kick, and Star-Lord’s Stellar Shift are a few examples of this. The status effects that Cloak and Dagger are subjected to can be eliminated by their Eternal Bond. Less mobile heroes like Storm have few options, and not everyone is fortunate enough to possess these abilities.
However, preventing bad status effects in the first place is the strongest strategy in Marvel Rivals overall. Deal enough damage fast, or interrupt the enemy mid-ability. One-off skills won’t be much of a danger if they can’t mobilize and regroup effectively.
